The Monsignor and the Skateboarders
August 2nd 2007 01:40
Well, what a mouthful the Monsignor gave 'em! I think he deserves an award of some kind - perhaps an AC for services to religious dialogue. No doubt the National Professional Standards apparat will see it differently.
It strikes me that we are becoming more and more a tightly regulated puritan state in which the least of our actions and words are universally recorded and meticulously scrutinised at the bar of public opinion. Even Mel and Kochie were having their two cents worth on Sunrise. Does it really matter if someone swore at some evidently unruly skateboard riders?
Much better that though, than the various Star Chambers that operate as church tribunals or panels of review. Who knows what he might get up to if in the future? Better make him do a course of group therapy! Talk about a Minority Report mentality.

Isn't that what the modern church is supposed to 'be about'?
