Papal Cat
July 14th 2008 22:55
I recently heard a barely credible rumour confirmed, though, by reportage in The Daily Telegraph - well-known for its accuracy (the Cardinal writes for The Tele after all - Oh My God, was he the source of the leak?) that the zealous numeraries at Kenthurst had provided the papal accommodation with a cat of the same breed and markings and with the same name (Bella) as the papal cat in Rome. Do you think they could have cloned it? I mean we all know that Opus Dei has access to secret technology as part of their plot making mechanism.
Another question is the name. Do you think it might be code for Mary Magdalene?
These are the real questions rivetting Australians - not apologies, not draconian laws, not traffic snarls, not the content of the feverinos the Pope is giving to the Australian bishops lined up outside the Headmsater's office at Kenthurst.
I must say that I am somewhat concerned that there is no papal dog - not even a poodle or a pooch or puppy, let alone a German Shepherd.
Another question - what will happen to Bella after her fortnight of fame? Will she be given a feline title and retire in luxury? Will she be treated as a relic and worshipped - there is the precedent of the Knights Templar, you know. Will Opus Dei sell quality time with Bella to enthusiastic super-numeraries as a fund raising exercise? Will they pimp the papal pussy to the pious? Sorry about the alliteration but we are in Teleland!
