Iranian Oppression
October 14th 2007 03:55
It being the end of Ramadan (Eid Mbarek) my thoughts turn to the plight of homosexual people in Iran. I recently met a very interesting young Farsi gentleman who has left that country. He is a film maker. Since then I have researched a little about the estimated 4000 young men tortured and executed in Iran since the Islamic revolution of the Ayatollah Khomenie for being homosexual.
If you google Gay and Iran you will find a startling tale of cruelty that is heart rending. There are You Tube clips and a current affairs documentary by CBC, as well as blogs and private testimonies.
The occasional University of Woolomooloo type jokes and discrimation against gay partners that we find in this country pale into insignificance compared to routine degradation and fear of torture and death.
